Plant a Tree
An estimated 18 million acres of forest are DESTROYED each year. We need your help to plant trees and combat the loss worldwide.
Trees are essential for life on Earth. They combat climate change, provide oxygen to breathe, regulate temperature through shade and wind breaks, and clean the air, water and soil. They also help prevent soil erosion and provide food and shelter.
Plus, scientists estimate that 80% of the planet’s terrestrial species live in forests. Deforestation is therefore one of the biggest extinction risks to many species. And it doesn’t stop there—forests also provide over 86 million green jobs, and an estimated 880 million depend on forests for basic survival, collecting fuelwood and producing charcoal for cooking.
Yet humans are destroying an estimated 18 million acres of forest each year, the equivalent of about 36 football fields of trees lost every minute. (Sources: National Geographic, UN-FAO, WWF, One Tree Planted)
Greater Good Charities has partnered with several organizations to plant trees in regions where there has been significant tree loss, regions where these re-plantings are essential to the health and well-being of people, animals and other living organisms. But we need YOUR help. For just $5, you can plant a native tree where it is most needed!
