Stunning Amahle Carved Wooden African Wall Mask
Expressing Africa’s rich mask traditions, Ghanaian artisan Abdul Aziz Mohamadu hand-carves this mask of sese wood. Featuring an oval shape, it is painted with a variety of colors while accented with etched line motifs. Embossed brass accenting the eyes gives the mask a textured surface that reflects traditional scarification practices. A clay rub gives this mask an antiqued finish. Mohamadu names it Amahle, meaning ‘beautiful ones’ in South Africa’s Zulu language.
