Yaka Rites Artisan Crafted Congolese African Mask in Brown and White
The Yaka people who dwell along the Kwango River inspire this elegant African mask. Christopher Nyasafo carves the imposing image from sese wood and paints it by hand. Masks are very important in the rites of passage for these residents of the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially the rituals in which adolescents become men.
