Support a Veteran’s Therapy Dog
It’s National PTSD Awareness Day.
Help veterans with PTSD find comfort with therapy dogs.Â
For veterans coming home, or retiring from service, it can be very difficult adjusting to day to day life while often coping with post-traumatic stress disorder. According to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs about 6 out of 10 men and about 5 out of 10 women experience at least one trauma in their lives. And about 6 out of 100 people will have PTSD at some point in their lives.*Â Programs in the United States have been created to aid veterans by training dogs to help them cope with their traumatic experiences and handle stressful situations in the present and future. Common symptoms that go along with PTSD include mood swings, intrusive memories, avoidance, trouble sleeping or concentrating, just to name a few. Acknowledging and providing mental health support is vital for these men and women.
One small way to help is by sending supplies to the dogs that provide therapy and emotional support to these veterans. These dogs give the love, compassion and comfort that is so desperately needed. They provide reassurance as well, which helps to reduce stress, anxiety, and can help a veteran ease back into social settings. These dogs play a pivotal role in the recovery process struggling with PTSD.
Goods can also go to therapy dogs that help veterans in other ways with injuries incurred while serving our nation. Let’s do what we can to help these men and women!
You can send a pack of treats, a collapsible water bowl and a can of dog food to a veterans’ therapy dog. Your purchase allows us to transport these items to those pets that need it most. It’s a small gesture but can mean the world to a veteran and their dog!
Do even more and support 2 dogs with goodies!
