Wildlife Rescued From Fires Need Care and Support to Be Released
We’re working with wildlife rescues domestically and abroad to provide care for innocent animals rescued from devastating fires. With your help, we can get them back on their feet – or on their wings – so they can return to the wild.
With higher global temperatures, more extreme weather events, and longer heatwaves, vegetation is much dryer and feeds an increasing number of megafires, which burn more than 100,000 acres on their own. Fires as a whole are also burning a higher volume of vegetation each year. As climate change worsens, projections show an average annual temperature rise of one degree Celsius could increase annual burn totals by as much as 600 percent.
While fires have strong impacts on people, they can also have a devastating effect on wildlife. High-intensity fires can destroy habitat for a wide range of species, leading to isolated portions of land for some and especially impacting those that return to the same spots each year for nesting and breeding. Destruction of vegetation can also limit food sources, damage water quality, and send animals on dangerous journeys to find resources. Finally, fires themselves can injure and kill wildlife and cause serious damage to their lungs and eyes, leading many to end up in rescues in need of rehabilitation.Â
You can help animals get the care and support needed for safe release back into the wild. Your gift will not only provide them safety while they recover, but your donations will contribute to their rehabilitation so they can head back to their habitat.
