This dog was found running out of an active fire by a firefighter in Lahaina. Paramedics drove her to Maui Humane Society (MHS) where staff were already preparing to evacuate.
This sweet girl was in shock and hardly moving, wrapped up in towels. She had sustained burns to her stomach, legs and feet. The vet assumes she had tried to claw her way free to escape the fire because of severe damage to her front paws. Her nails and toes are completely gone.Â
The dog was wearing a purple harness, but had no identification or microchip. Nobody has called looking for her, but the phone lines are still down. MHS staff are keeping her under heavy sedation in their emergency room. When she is awake, she is quiet and sweet. Many staff have cried, knowing that she represents so many more animals who are in distress.
You can help this sweet girl and pets like her get treatment. Your donations will help cover the ongoing care she will need. Any funds raised beyond that will go towards Greater Good Charities’ Disaster Response Fund, which can help provide life-saving treatment of other pets injured in the Maui wildfires.
