Ghana Sankofa Bracelet
In Ghana the word Sankofa is often associated with the proverb, “Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi,” which translates: “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten.” The women artisans of Global Mamas have gone back to both cultural beading traditions as well as the use of recycled materials to make their goods.
Global Mamas is an organization in Ghana which has worked for over a decade helping women of Africa in attaining economic independence. Sales of Global Mamas products provide dignity to African women who are now able to earn an honest living through the production of handmade batik and beaded products.
