Help Herd of Goats Heal After Abandonment by Breeders
Rescuers saved a herd of goats abandoned by breeders in the brutal desert heat.
When a herd of goats, most likely dumped by breeders, was abandoned in the Arizona desert, the nearby community contacted a local sanctuary to coordinate their rescue.
The goats were very thin, with damaged horns and poor coat quality. One even had cholla cactus spines in his underside, which were quickly removed. Two of the goats, Granny Mae and Griselda, were pregnant. In total, the sanctuary has taken in 10 adult goats and several kids.
Granny Mae is expecting triplets and is due any day now, and this mama needs to be kept under shelter to avoid heat stress. Griselda recently gave birth to her two babies.
Today, all these precious animals are gaining weight with a proper diet and are up to date on necessary vaccinations. Greater Good Charities’ Emergency Animal Medical Fund stepped up to help cover the cost of this herd’s medical treatment, ensuring they get the care needed to heal from all they’ve endured.
