Maya Priest Offerings in Grey Ceramic Plaque
Standing tall and solemn, the priest directs his offerings to the east during an important festivity. Mexican ceramist Angel Cerón replicates the legendary art of the Maya with a highly detailed panel featuring a priest. The Maya people would mark special occasions with similar panels featuring glyphs that informed of the date. Panels such as Cerón’s ceramic replica have been found in the Chichen-Itzá archeological site.
Cerón uses a special finishing technique that causes the panel to develop small cracks to achieve an antique appearance.
