Nomad Heritage Cuff
Putting a spin on modern style, this bold statement bracelet draws from Indian hand-embroidered traditional Kutch style themes and patterns. Support women artisans in India while adding a nomadic flair to your look!
The Gypsy Collaborative Project jewelry pieces are original designs made in collaboration by three skilled women’s artisan groups. First, artisans of gypsy heritage in rural Northern India hand-embroider traditional Kutch style themes and patterns on fabric. Next, women seamstresses from Poonam, a women run organization providing employment and training to skilled and unskilled women artisans, sew the fabric into finished pieces for jewelry components. The jewelry is then finished with jump rings, chains, French hooks, and findings by women jewelry artisans from a workshop outside of Nodia.
The idea of combining the talents of different groups of artisan women for one product is new for us. While the logistics are more challenging, the results are beautiful. Not only are we providing work for rural women whose skills are in very traditional fine embroidery not often used in modern designs, but we are providing work for seamstresses, and jewelry artisans making multilayer beneficiaries for one piece.
