Prehispanic History Hand Painted Ceramic Mayan Mask from Mexico
A face rests below a towering array of Mayan cultural symbols in this mask, made from ceramic and painted by hand. Included are famous characters such as Balám the jaguar, as well as Mayan gods Quetzalcoátl, Kukulkan, and Chaac. Famous Mayan structures are also depicted, such as the Chac Mool statue, believed to link the mortal and immortal worlds, and the grand pyramid known as El Castillo of Chichen Itza, one of the largest Mayan pyramids ever discovered. Designed by artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association, this mask is full of history and character, bringing a touch of pre-Hispanic culture to any home.
