Rescue Vaquitas and Sea Lions from Entanglements and Trash
Help save vaquitas and sea lions caught in nets and trash.
Now more than ever, we need to start taking care of our ocean and the amazing wildlife living in it. Beyond the trash animals continuously swallow, gillnets and other harmful fishing materials are trapping and killing animals such as the vaquita and small sea lions.Â
Too often, these mammals find themselves entangled in fishermen’s large nets. While sea lions are generally strong enough to fight their way out, they’re frequently left with nylon netting that cuts the flesh around their neck or flippers, cuts that eventually lead to their untimely death. Vaquitas are smaller and are usually unable to fight their way free, remaining entangled until they die from starvation or strangulation.Â
You can help. Your gift can support the rescue of vaquitas and sea lions entangled in nets and trash. It can go toward educating local fishers about the importance of safe fishing practices, even taking them on rescues to see firsthand the torture these animals go through. And your donation can help in the development of education and outreach programs promoting community participation in the rescue and protection of marine life. You can do so much to save these animals. Give today.
